Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) – Havant and Hayling Island - appointment system from Monday 15th June

Queues of vehicles to enter Hampshire County Council's Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) have not reduced since the Centres reopened on 11th May. This continues to cause serious traffic disruption - not least for the lorries coming to collect/replace the waste containers.

There will be a change, from Monday 15th June, to an appointment system. Residents will be able to book a 30 minute slot, up to 48 hours ahead. Initially available book an appointment online, residents will need to provide their name and car registration. A phone reservation service will be in place shortly. Only one visit per week will be permitted.

Fishery Lane and Havant HWRCs will be open from 0900 to 1800hrs seven days a week.

The new automatic number plate recognition programme (ANPR), designed to allow automatic access for vehicles registered by Hampshire residents, will not be enforced during this period. This allows more time for Hampshire residents to register their cars’ registrations. Go to to register your car for access to HWRC.

In addition, plans include using the ANPR cameras at each site also to be used to estimate queue times and after all personal information, such as plate numbers, vehicle details and individuals, have been removed, to e-cast queue times in real time on Veolia’s, the operator, website. Thus, allowing Islanders the opportunity to schedule their arrival to avoid busy times.

Please follow the HCC website and local Press for further announcements.
